The Territory

The hinterland of southeastern Sicily is dominated by the Monti Iblei, the plateau that stretches between the municipalities of Ragusa, Syracuse and Catania. With its highest peaks touching 1,000 meters in height, it then slopes gently toward the sea with an open and airy hilly landscape, furrowed by characteristic dry stone walls and dotted with olive trees, carob trees, almond trees and rows of vines.

Here lies the town of Chiaramonte Gulfi, in the province of Ragusa, in whose district Villa Fegotto falls.

Territory-Fegotto-2

The harmony and beauty of the land surrounding the Fegotto is matched only by its fertility. For centuries the productions of oil, wheat, wine and dairy products have represented a fundamental economic resource for the Iblei. Today they have established themselves on the national and international scene for the excellence of certain products such as Monti Iblei PDO extra virgin olive oil, Caciocavallo Ragusano PDO, Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG and Cioccolato di Modica IGP.

Along with scenic and natural beauty, the area offers some must-see artistic destinations for those visiting this part of Sicily. Within a radius of a few dozen kilometers from Villa Fegotto are the splendid baroque towns of the Val di Noto, a Unesco heritage site: Ragusa Ibla, Scicli, Modica and Noto. From Chiaramonte Gulfi you can also easily reach Caltagirone, famous for its handcrafted ceramics.
